GENERAL INFORMATION

The masked Lovebird (better know as A. Personata) was discovered 1877 in north-east Tanzania. Its closest relative, is the Fischers Lovebird, who lives only about 60 km from there. Theur habitat is lightly wooden savannah, boabab trees providing the nest cavities. Like the A. Roseicollis and the A. Fischeri, they lai 4 to 6 eggs and the incubation is 21 to 23 days. Do not buy to young birds, because they can die stress.

DESCRIPTION

  • 15 cm long

  • The light reen (or wild form) bird has a deep black head

  • A yellow collar extends from the hind neck to the breast

  • The unther parts are lighter in colour

  • The bend of the wing is yellow

  • The rump is dark blue on a greenish base

  • The bill is deep coal red

  • The cere and the bare skin around the eyes is white

  • The feet are grey and the claws are black
